I first met Mark while working for a wine competition when he was judging some of the flights.  What struck me about Mark was his energy and enthusiasm for wine.  A homemade winemaker in more than one way, Mark is meticulous in his cellar.

Mark in the Cellar

La Petite Ferme – The little farm – is purely handmade or handcrafted wines.  Boutique styled wine with exceptional quality.  The farm lies at the foot of the Franschhoek Pass as you ascend the mountain, and has outstanding views of the Franschhoek Valley.  Although Mark is known for his Merlot, I tasted the Viognier while have lunch with my French barrels agent, as Viognier is one of my favourite varietals, and Mark has really excelled here.

La Petite Ferme Viognier

The terroir and climate that La Petite Ferme has, produces European styled wines; elegant and age-worthy, yet with a touch of the South African sunshine bringing in the delicate fruit.  This family owned business that consists of a 4* guest house, 5* restaurant, and 5* wines, is truly going to be a fabulous experience.

The restaurant is not open in the evening, and in fact, Mark is only going to do the tasting for us due to our association with each other within the industry…..so count ourselves lucky 🙂  But Franschhoek is the Food & Wine Capital of the country, and we will then dine at Cafe Des Arts in town afterwards.

Cafe Des Arts Menu Board

A fun and festive little restaurant that is known for its great food at reasonable prices, you can order off the main menu for under R100 per person.

As always, I look forward to seeing you all there on the 26th April at 18h30 for 19h00.  If you are not a member of the club and would like to join us; please feel free to contact me at leilani@grapeencounters.co.za to book by the Tuesday the 24th!
